A FEW FRIENDLY DIRECTIONS

Keep your words close.

Help for the private workspace while VeilPlume takes shape. The public fictional demo is separate and resets when reloaded.

Your first book

Start fresh or bring in a manuscript

On your bookshelf, choose New book for a blank project, or Import manuscript for a TXT, Markdown or DOCX file. Check the preview, title and chapter split before importing.

An import creates a separate book. It does not replace an existing project. Files are processed in your browser; your manuscript is not sent to a document conversion service.

DOCX import keeps supported basic text formatting. Complex Word layouts, images, comments and tracked changes may not transfer. Keep the original file and review the preview.

Find a passage or a world detail

Use Search book to search chapters and world entries in the current book. Choose a result to open that chapter or profile. Search treats your words as ordinary text, including punctuation.

Build a world without filling every field

Characters, places, cultures, religions and the other collections group their questions into tabs. Grey examples show one possible answer; they are inspiration and are never saved as your own writing. Skip any field that does not help your story.

Save, recover and move your work

Autosave and downloaded backups

Books save automatically in this browser on this device. Wait for the saved status before leaving. If a save fails or a second tab changes the same book, follow the message and download a backup of your current work.

Use Download backup regularly and keep a copy outside this browser. A VeilPlume JSON backup contains the book and worldbuilding data. Restore it from your bookshelf to make a separate recovered copy.

Browser storage can be cleared or removed by the browser. A local save or chapter history is not a substitute for a downloaded backup. Private browsing is unsuitable for work you need to keep.

If you cannot enter the workspace, the local recovery page can download books already stored in this browser.

Return to an earlier chapter draft

Open a chapter and choose Chapter history. Save a labeled version before a major rewrite. Checkpoints are also taken during work and chapter changes.

Restoring a version first preserves your current draft. History is limited to 20 versions and 4 MiB per chapter, so older versions are trimmed as new ones are saved. History stays inside the local book and its downloaded backups.

Export a readable manuscript or world reference

Use Export in the workspace to download a DOCX or plain-text manuscript, or a readable HTML world reference. These are useful for reading and sharing. Use a VeilPlume backup when you want to preserve all editable project data.

DOCX export is a writing handoff, not a professional print or ebook typesetting service. Always inspect the exported file before submitting it.

Move between a computer, iPad and phone

Download a VeilPlume backup on one device and restore it on the other. The restored book is a separate copy; edits are not merged automatically. Choose one current copy to work from and keep dated backups to avoid confusing versions.

Signing in, installing the site or using browser account sync does not sync the books themselves. Real-device compatibility testing is still in progress.

Writing without a connection

Prepare offline access
  1. While online, sign in and open your bookshelf.
  2. Choose Offline setup and confirm that this is a device you trust.
  3. Choose Prepare offline access and wait for the ready message.
  4. Keep a separate downloaded backup of your book.

For easy access, use your browser’s Install option. On iPhone or iPad, use Safari’s Share menu and Add to Home Screen; prepare offline access inside that app too if needed.

Offline storage is specific to this browser profile. Anyone using the same profile may be able to open its local books. Signing out removes the prepared offline app files, while preserving the books for recovery. If you clear site data, both may be removed.

After a new app release, open Offline setup while online and refresh the saved app files. Some browsers may reclaim storage. Offline reopening still needs testing across supported devices before launch.

Payments and product help

Refund and billing questions

Purchases are not open yet. When VeilPlume sells through Paddle, use the payment-support link in your receipt or Paddle’s buyer support for payment and refund requests. Paddle handles the payment process. Product problems and writing-tool support remain with VeilPlume.

A written product-support contact and the purchase policies will be published before checkout opens.
